Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is an Albert Lea Area Schools program that provides parenting information and support for parents with children ages Birth to Grade 3. Parent-child activities and classes are also available for families with children ages Birth to 5 years old (not yet enrolled in kindergarten). A variety of classes, preschool options, and outreach activities are offered for all age groups. What does a typical ECFE class include? Parent-Child Activity TimeFamilies explore a classroom filled with developmentally appropriate play materials and learning activities planned by a licensed early childhood teacher.Parent Education TimeParents meet with a licensed parent educator to share support, experiences, and information about child development and parenting techniques.Children’s Activity TimeChildren learn with the early childhood teacher and practice social skills as they interact with one another.Category -

It helps identify possible health or learning concerns so children can receive support before starting school. What to expect at your child’s screening appointment: A trained professional will check your child’s: Vision and hearing Height and weight Immunization records Large and small muscles Thinking, language, and communication skills Social and emotional development Is there a cost? No. Early Childhood Screening is FREE. All children are required to complete a screening before starting kindergarten in a Minnesota public school. When should I schedule an appointment? Screening at age 3 is recommended, but children may be screened anytime between age 3 and the start of kindergarten, as required by Minnesota state law. Earlier is better! The goal of screening is to ensure children are on track for school readiness and to provide support if additional time or experiences are needed. Fall Dance TeamYouth EnrichmentKeep your dance passion going strong this fall! This off-season opportunity is open to both returning and new dancers and is perfect for those looking to build on their High School Dance Team experience. Sessions will focus on refining technique, building endurance, and enhancing performance skills. The season will wrap up with performances at the ALHS homecoming parade, pepfest, and football game - showcasing the team’s hard work, growth, and dedication! Practices will be held at the ALHS gym at the following times: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7:00–8:00 AM Saturdays from 8:00–11:00 AM Please note our registration system lists only one time. High School Driver's Education Online ClassroomDrivers EducationOur online Driver’s Education program prepares students for the Minnesota Class D Knowledge Exam while helping them build the skills needed for safe, responsible driving. Age Requirement: Students must be at least 14½ years old by the start of class. Class Structure: This online option includes 30 hours of online classroom instruction through A+ Driving School and six hours of Behind-the-Wheel training with Albert Lea Community Education driving instructors. Course Availability: The Summer 2026 online course is available May 4 through September 30, 2026. Registration closes August 17, 2026. Registration Fees & Deadlines: The Early Bird Registration fee is $385 through August 3, 2026. After that, the standard registration fee is $405 through August 17, 2026. Additional Fee Required: A separate $20 A+ Driving School online platform fee is required when creating an account. This fee must be paid by credit card and is not included in the Community Ed registration fee. Course Timeline: Students must complete the course within the date range listed at registration. They may work on the material for up to three hours per day and can finish in as few as 10 days. Students who do not finish within the allotted time must re-register and pay for the course again. Completion / Permit Test: At the end of the final online lesson, students must go to myblueslip.com, select Albert Lea Community Education, and follow the prompts to notify our office that the classroom portion is complete. Community Education will then submit the student’s information to the state and send additional next-step information by email. Students must be age 15 before taking the Minnesota Class D Knowledge Exam. Additional Information: Full course and contract details, policies, and requirements will be provided during the online enrollment process. Please also check your confirmation email for instructions on how to create your account and log in to the online classroom. Kick-Off Band LessonsYouth EnrichmentStudents entering 6th grade and registered for band are invited to participate in kick-off lessons. During these 30-minute lessons, students will receive instruction on techniques specific to their instrument in small groups. They will learn how to hold the instrument, create sound and begin playing notes. Participating in these lessons allows students to begin the school year with confidence and progress much more quickly in class. Students must have their instrument choice approved by the middle school director to sign up. All students need an instrument that is in good working order and a Sound Innovations Book One for their instrument prior to the start of lessons. Just imagine, students will be able to begin the school year reading notes, rhythms and playing music! Learn to Play PickleballFitnessCome learn the fabulous sport of pickleball. It looks a lot like tennis but is played on a much smaller court. You will have the opportunity to learn the rules of the game, along with techniques that will help you enjoy this fun and challenging form of physical activity. There is no need to bring a partner, paddle, or ball unless you wish to. You are also welcome to take breaks if you do not yet feel ready for consistent play. Learn to Ski with Bayside Water Ski TeamYouth EnrichmentThis Learn to Water Ski course introduces students to the fundamentals of water skiing while helping intermediate skiers enhance their technique and advance to the next level. Participants will master proper body positioning, deep-water starts, and balance, while more experienced skiers can refine their skills with Bayside’s finest skiers. Emphasis is placed on water and boat safety, communication signals, and equipment use. All on-water sessions are led by certified boat drivers to ensure a safe, professional experience. No experience is required—only a desire to learn, improve, and have fun on the water! Please come wearing a swimsuit and bring a towel.
